Twitter's "Trending" list is supposed to represent "what's hot" on social media. Twitter trends show you what people are talking about & discussing during the day in your nearby locations.
In the recent past the 'Trends' list has been taken over by what we can call 'Trends War'. Be it brands trying to capture public attention, organizations running awareness campaings or political parties trying to throw dirt on each other, the Twitter Trends List is where the ultimate showdown is always happening!
'Social Media Influencers', 'Bloggers' and 'Social Media Activists' are some of the titles these people give themselves who have made themselves available to run twitter trends for a certain fee. Political parties have gone one step ahead & created whole teams of activists all working remotely but in harmony to keep their party's trends on top.
Recently, Dawn also published an excellent investigative article breaking down these trend making factories.The purpose of this tool is to let a social media user explore how a certain hashtag got to the 'Trends' tab, was it a coordinated effort by a group of people or was it something that people were naturally talking about and who are the people behind all this?
